Barça hit yet another six
Berta Brau
Malaga became the fourth team to be hit for six by Barça this season. In fact, in just four games, they fall just one short of the number of goals the bottom placed club has managed in the entire championship.
Scoring goals in La Liga is no easy task, let alone six in the same match. But FC Barcelona have
managed to do that no less than four times this season. Not only are they winning games, but they
are doing so with sublime conviction.
Six appeal
Against Malaga, Barça won 6-0 for the second time this season and scored
six for the fourth time. Before Malaga, Valladolid and Atlético Madrid had suffered similar
humiliations at the Camp Nou. Sporting Gijón were the first side to suffer so devastatingly at the
feet of the Barça goal machine, and in front of their own fans at El Molinón, where all they could
muster was one consolidation goal in response.
24 goals in four games
The 24 goals scored in these four games amount to 28.6% of
Barça’s total for the campaign. To show how impressive that statistic is, that tally from
just four matches is only one shy of what Espanyol, the bottom placed club, have managed all
season.
Yet more thrashings
But Barça have also managed to rout other teams this season.
They have scored five twice, against Deportivo la Coruña and Almería at the Camp Nou. They have
also knocked four past Valencia, Numancia and Malaga.
Other high scoring teams
There is no arguing that Barça are the league’s top scoring team. Real Madrid are a
fair way short, but have also dealt out some punishments this season, including a 7-1 win against
Sporting and a 6-1 win against Betis. No other side has managed to score six goals in a game this
season, although Atlético Madrid, Racing Santander, Getafe and Osasuna have managed five.
