Henry: 40 goals in 80 games
Jesús Carrillo
After scoring against Malaga, Thierry Henry has now scored 40 official goals for Barça, quite some achievement considering he made that milestone in just 80’ games.
It’s easy to calculate Henry’s goalscoring rate. Exactly one goal every two games. And
all of those goals have come from open play, not one of the forty came from the penalty spot or
free kicks.
Eto'o and Messi lead the club’s scoring charts, and Henry is third this season. Even
so, he has scored a massive 21 goals, already more than the 19 he scored in his debut season for
the club.
Always starting in Champions League
He scored his first official goal for FC Barcelona in the Champions
League on September 19, 2007, at the Camp Nou, against Olympique Lyon. This year he also opened his
account in a European fixture, against Wisla Krakow on August 13 in the qualification match at the
stadium.
Third highest scorer in Europe
Henry is a classic of the Champions League goalscoring records. After
the second round matches just played, he has scored 49 goals in this competition, bettered only by
Raul (64) and Van Nistelrooy (56). Henry is also the highest goalscorer ever for the French
national team, with 48.
All competitions
Like last season, Henry has scored in all three competitions. In his second season with the
club, he has scored 15 goals in La Liga, 5 in the Champions League (including the qualification
games) and 1 goal in the cup, although he has only played a small part in the latter competition.
Last year, the Frenchman was on target 4 times in the Copa del Rey, making him the top cup
goalscorer under Frank Rijkaard. Henry also scored 12 goals in La Liga, and 3 in the Champions
League.
