Iniesta recovers in Barcelona

Andrés Iniesta travelled on Tuesday to Madrid, where the Spanish Federation’s doctors examined the player and agreed that his thigh injury will prevent him from being able to play in either of the two games against Turkey.
Andrés Iniesta will recover in Barcelona from the injury to the abductor muscle in his right leg
suffered in Sunday’s win at Malaga (6-0). He travelled to Madrid on Tuesday to visit the
Spanish national team camp.
Lunch and back to Barcelona
He was examined by the Spanish doctors, who agreed that he was in no condition to work with
the squad managed by Vicente del Bosque. After lunch, he was on a plane straight back to Barcelona.
So, Andrés Iniesta will not be taking part in the back-to-back World Cup 2010 qualifying
matches against Turkey.
Valencia’s Juan Mata has been named as Iniesta’s replacement in the squad.
Xavi and Piqué stay on
Xavi, who has had problems with his Achilles tendon, and Piqué, who missed Sunday’s game
after going down with a fever, have also travelled to Madrid, but unlike Iniesta, they will be
available for selection. The other Barça player in the Spain squad is Sergio Busquets.
