Leo Messi was outstanding in Argentina’s 4-0 win over Venezuela (4-0). The new Argentina number 10 was the star in Maradona’s competitive debut on the national bench.
Leo Messi showed no sign of nerves as he proudly wore the legendary number 10 shirt for Argentina
in the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires. Messi played the full 90 minutes, scored the opening
goal, set up the second for Tévez and was the most dangerous forward on the pitch.
Four goals
Maradona picked an attacking 3-4-3 line-up for his first match as Argentine manager. His team
started strongly and Messi hit the first goal in the 25th minute after a one-two with Tévez. Having
prised open the Venezuelan defence, Argentina piled on the pressure with further goals from Tévez
(47’), Maxi Rodríguez (56’) and Agüero (73’).
Argentina will now meet Bolivia in La Paz, a match to be played at over 3,000 metres.
