Messi: “With the way we’re playing we’re in with a good shout”

Leo Messi thinks Barça have to attack to overcome Bayern and get through the tie even though the Catalans do have “a big advantage” from the first leg.
Messi was speaking at a press conference before Barça’s training session. He said he wanted
to attack tomorrow as defending the 4-0 lead from Camp Nou isn’t the right way to go:
“We have to go out as we always do and try to play good football and win. If we go out to
defend we could be in trouble as Bayern have great players who can create danger”.
Going for goal
Even though the Catalans have “a big advantage”,
Messi thinks they still need to go for goal: “They’ll want to get one early doors to
put pressure on us and we have to play the Barça way and try to score. If we can get one
it’ll make it really hard for them”.
The Getafe experience
As recently as the 2006/07 season Barça apparently had their Spanish Cup tie with Getafe
wrapped up after the first leg only for the Madrid outfit to make an amazing comeback in the
second. Messi remembers it well and doesn’t want to see a repeat: “We’ve been
there and so we know we can’t be overly confident and especially not as Bayern have good
players all over the park”.
Favourites for the title?
The Argentine attacker admitted Barça is one of the favourites for this season’s
Champions League but says that there is still a long way to go: “It’s tough winning
this competition and we know we need to be good to do it. If we get through this round the
semis’ll be really hard, but I still think that with the way we’re playing we’re
in with a good shout”. However, he went on to point out that it’s not always the best
team that wins the competition, so the most sensible thing to do is to “take each game as it
comes”.
