Josep Guardiola admits the 4-0 score from the first leg is good for Barça but thinks the Catalans “need to attack and score a goal”.
“If we do it the semi-finals will be close,” said Barça’s manager at his
pre-match press conference. “It’d be a mistake to go out and sit back. This is a tough
ground to come to and I have a lot of respect for Bayern Munich.” If Barça do score, the
Germans will need six to go through.
Mindset
For Guardiola it’s all a question of mindset. “We’re strong when we go out
to win games,” he argued. “I want the team to go out and attack and try to score and
keep the game in their half.” He doesn’t want his players thinking about the first leg
4-0 result.
“Bayern’ll go for it”
Bayern Munich have been talking up how little chance they
stand but Guardiola’s having none of it. “I don’t know if it’s a strategy
or what, because they’ve got Ribéry, Lahm, Demichelis, Lucio and so on,” he pointed
out. “If they really thought that they’d put out a team of reserves but Klinsmann will
have his best team on show. Bayern’ll go for it, and if I were them I would.”
Strong start
As for the game, Guardiola reckons the home side will begin strongly. “They’ll be
coming out strong and we have to make sure we’re stronger than them because if we
aren’t they’ll make it hard for us,” he argued. “If we let them dominate
they can cause an awful lot of problems.”

Guardiola in the stands
Josep Guardiola is banned from the touchline after being sent off in the first leg at Camp Nou. Nor
will he be able to speak to Tito Vilanova, Barça’s assistant coach who will be giving the
instructions from the dugout this Tuesday. “We’ll talk about it and we’ll see how
much I can do,” commented Guardiola. “It won’t be much, but Tito Vilanova’s
there and the team knows what it has to do.”
