Back-to-back fixtures against main rivals
Marc Guillén
This Wednesday against Seville Barça kicks off a series of four League fixtures against their closest pursuers. The outcome of the League could be decided in a series of games that went well for Barça in the first half of the season.
The League is at the decisive stage with just 7 games to go in the run-in, and the top of the table
sides play each other over forthcoming weeks.
Difference with Madrid
Barça are to play Seville, Valencia, Madrid and Vila-real in that order.
Madrid’s schedule is much the same with the difference that whilst Barça play two of these
games away, Madrid will be on the road three times.
Victories in first half of season
In the first half of the season Barcelona took all twelve points out of their four
encounters, beating Seville (
0-3
) and Vila-real (
1-2
) away, and Valencia (
4-0
) and Real Madrid (
2-0
) at home.
What the others did
The record of the other teams was not as impressive as Real Madrid got 6
points, Seville 7 and Vila-real 1. Barça got 6 points more than Madrid out of these games, which is
oddly enough the difference which now separates the two teams.
Chelsea in the middle
In the first half of the season Barça played these four games in four weeks with just one
other game against Shaktar. This time round they will play the four in three weeks with two
Champions League semi-final games in the middle. The match against Real Madrid at the Bernabé takes
place between the first and second legs of Barça’s clash with Chelsea.
