Individual records - collective benefit
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Iniesta, Eto'o, Valdés...Just some of the names from a match that once again ended with a fine display of football, goals, a clean sheet and the league title a little bit nearer. And some new individual and team records.
The brilliant victory against Sevilla (4-0) kept Barça six points ahead of Real Madrid in second
place. It also witnessed the first of a number of Club records that look likely to be broken
– in this case the greatest number of wins in a league season.
Eto'o, more goals than ever
The Cameroon striker scored his 27th league goal of the
season on Wednesday evening and beat his own Club record of 26 goals in the 2005-06 season. He
remains in an exciting race with David Villa (25 goals), whose two goals against Betis have kept
him in touch. Eto’o has also regained top place in the Golden Boot ranking ahead of Marc
Janko. Consult Eto’o’s complete statistics.
Seven clean sheets
Víctor Valdés has now kept a clean sheet in the last seven consecutive
matches. A total of 632 minutes without conceding a goal, which brings him close to Miguel
Reina’s record of 824 minutes. And of course this also brings him to within touching distance
of the Zamora Trophy for the La Liga goalkeeper who concedes the fewest goals in a season. Consult
Valdés’ complete statistics.
Iniesta, assists and goals
Andrés Iniesta scored an early goal for the second match in a row in the
Camp Nou, giving him a total of four goals this season. However, his main contribution against
Sevilla was to provide the assist for the other three goals. Consult Iniesta’s complete
statistics.
92 goals... and 32 against the woodwork
The current Barça team has scored 92 goals so far, bringing them closer and closer
to the 96 goals in the 1958-59 season scored by the Barça team managed by Helenio Herrera and the
102 goals scored under Bobby Robson in the 1996-97 season. However, there could have been even more
goals this season given that Barça has hit the woodwork on no fewer than 32 occasions. Márquez
added to the list against Sevilla when his powerful long-range shot skimmed the crossbar.
