Laporta: “We’re in touching distance of the title”

Anna Segura

After the game, the FC Barcelona president admitted that the win at the Bernabéu brings them closer still to the title. And he was glad they had won “by being faithful to our style”.

“Today is a day when Barça have to feel very happy about making their fans so happy”. President Joan Laporta was visibly ecstatic with the result in Madrid and added that “It’s very close. We’re in touching distance of the title”.

Faithful to their style

Laporta mostly wanted to congratulate “the players, they played a great game, and Pep Guardiola, who directed them masterfully”. The Barça president was also thrilled that they had achieved all that playing such delightful football. “Our sporting project has worked very well. That it what makes me feel proudest”

Prudence

Now for Chelsea

Madrid already history, it’s now time to turn their minds back to Chelsea. That’s a game Laporta still considers “very difficult”, where his players will need to produce a “heroic” performance if they want to qualify. But the Barça president is convinced his team “is capable of anything”.

Txiki: “They reacted well”
At half time, and winning 3-1, director of football Txiki Begiristain said the team “reacted well. They played well and effectively.” He was especially impressed with “the seriousness we showed in defence”.

Txiki felt that in the first half “We showed just why we are here”. He also echoed president Joan Laporta by saying he was delighted the players “had showed respect for the club philosophy”.
