Successful thumb op for Jorquera

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The Barça goalkeeper had a successful operation on a fractured right thumb on Tuesday morning. Club doctors stated that the operation had gone well and predict he will need a couple of months to recover.

Drs Xavier Mir and Ricard Pruna carried out the operation on Tuesday morning on the thumb injury that Jorquera suffered during training on Monday. Dr Mir’s first words after the operation were positive: “It went well. We tried to treat the fracture at the base of the thumb. It’s a fracture of the joint that dislocates the thumb. There’s practically no scar and we have put in a titanium screw to hold it”.

Rest and recuperation

Albert Jorquera will have to rest completely for a week before beginning the recuperation process. Dr Mir reminded reporters that these things are not an exact science but stated that the player would need approximated eight weeks to recover.

Excited about Valencia
Dr Mir also explained that Jorquera can’t wait to travel down to Valencia: “He will stay in the hospital until tomorrow (Wednesday) in order to take his medicine. Then, in principle, he’ll be able to leave because he’s really excited about being able to celebrate the Cup Final”.
