A goalless draw with Arsenal has been enough to make Manchester United into EPL champions. United have now equalled Liverpool’s haul of eighteen titles.
With one game still to go in the campaign, at goalless draw at Old Trafford has given Barça’s
Champions League final rivals the point they required to become EPL champions. In a game that was
tense from start to finish, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men kept the clean sheet they needed.
Arsenal go for it
In an evenly matched first half, Cristiano Ronaldo had one chance early on which he spurned.
Arsenal were missing the injured Adebayor but had Arshavin back in their line-up.
In the 15th minute an assist from the Russian gave Van Persie a great chance but somehow his
header went wide. The first half was littered with fouls and free kicks as the Londoners fought
hard to nullify the home side’s attack.
Cesc hits post
After the restart United remained strong at the back but Arsène Wenger’s team looked to
rain on their parade with an attacking game in which Abou Diabyi and Arshavin gave outstanding
performances. With two minutes left on the clock, ex-Barça player Cesc Fàbregas almost snuffed out
the celebrations but his effort hit the post.
Finally Manchester United on 87 points have won their 18th English league title, their 11th
since it was renamed the Premier League, to equal the record previously held by Liverpool.
