Giggs: “A dream final”
Berta Brau / Jordi Clos
Manchester United winger, Ryan Giggs, has defined the Rome final as “a dream final between the two best teams in Europe”. He’s looking forward to an open, attacking game.
The 35 year old Welsh star, who has been with Man U and Alex Ferguson for 18 years, is the living
personification of experience. He answered questions at the UEFA Media Open Day on Wednesday in
Manchester and told reporters: “It’s a dream final between the two best teams in
Europe. Both have offered great football and are champions in their respective leagues”.
An open game
According to Giggs, Manchester United’s great recent successes
(reigning World, European and Premier League champions) are no coincidence: “We have the
players to achieve anything. We have progressed little by little. Winning titles has given us the
strength to stay at the top level”. He believes it will be an open game and hopes that the
fans will see plenty of attacking football: “In a context like this everyone wants to play in
a final like this”.
Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo
Giggs also spoke about the personal duel between Messi and
Ronaldo, the two best players in the world according to FIFA, but declined to choose between them:
“When players reach such a high level there can only be small differences. Perhaps Cristiano
is physically stronger but in recent years Messi has improved a great deal in this aspect and they
can both make the difference”.
