Fans packed the Miniestadi next to the Camp Nou to watch the team beat Manchester United and celebrate the treble.
The Champions League final party began around 7 pm in the Miniestadi.
The area surrounding the stadium complex filled with huge numbers of fans anxious to share, even at
a distance, the events in Rome.
The spectacle begins
The party started at 7.30 pm with some 2,000 fans waving giant flags and chanting. A special
edition of “Barça Camp Nou” was available.
The fans were led from the centre of the pitch in enthusiastic renditions of the Barça anthem
and Coldplay’s ‘Viva la vida’. Meanwhile, Barça TV broadcast a special pre-final
preview.
Then a complete silence fell over the crowd at kick-off.
Explosion of joy
The fans cheered on the players throughout the 90 minutes but there was
an enormous explosion of joy after ten minutes when Eto’o put Barça in the lead.
“Champions, Champions”
As it became clearer that Barça was dominating the final, the fans relaxed a little but
continued to support the team. When Messi scored the definitive second goal the fans burst into
chants of “Champions, champions”.
The Barça anthem put the finishing touch to the final (and to a wonderful season) and was
followed by “We are the champions”.
