Pep Guardiola believes that he is "fortunate" to be enjoying the moments of glory that he has had this season during a "splendid" first year in charge of FC Barcelona.
The Blaugana boss stated that he has enjoyed one of the best moments of his life and it is
difficult to see what he could have done better as he guided the team to an historic treble of the
Champions League, Spanish title and Copa del Rey. After beating Manchester United in Rome,
Guardiola said: "We are delighted. I have seen that the players are greatly affected by this
because we know that we have done something great."
Pleased and satisfied
Reflecting on the season as a whole, Guardiola explained that he wanted to congratulate all
the players. "I wish them all this and more and hope they enjoy it. I am pleased and satisfied. I
need to take it all in enjoy the feelings. We had a few minutes when started slowly, but we then
took over and were able to play the way we wanted."
From Krakow to Rome
Barça's route to Rome began in August in the qualifying
round against Wisla Krakow and after nine months the team has been crowned as champions in Rome.
"We started out in Krakow and now we have completed the job here in Rome."
Making history
After becoming the first team from the Spanish league to win the Champions League, domestic
title and Copa del Rey, Guardiola hailed his players. "We may not be the best team in history, but
we have had the best season in history," he explained.
Messi the best
Guardiola wanted to congratulate all the players for their performances, but he was also keen
to highlight the role that Lionel Messi played. "He is a fantastic player. We did not need to win
the European Cup to prove that he was the best in the world."
On Sylvinho and his performance at left-back, Guardiola was delighted. "I should my hat off
to him. I am so pleased because he was excellent," the coach stated.
