Joy in the streets of Barcelona
www.fcbarcelona.cat
In an open topped bus bearing the word “Tricampeones”, the League, Cup and Champions League winners paraded through the streets of Barcelona, welcomed by thousands of supporters.
Wearing a special shirt with the words ‘Copa, Liga y Champions' and the names of the all the
members of the squad on the back, the champions paraded through several of the main streets of
Barcelona as they wended their way towards the Camp Nou. The procession began at about seven
o’clock.
Cups on show
The most striking image was that of the three trophies won this amazing year, the Liga, the
Copa del Rey and the Champions league, which took pride of place at the front of the bus. A great
chance to share the treble with the adoring masses.
Flags and scarves
As well as the commemorative shirt, the players also wore scarves and
draped flags over their shoulders. But some of the players went even further than that. Dani Alves
wore a typical cap, while Cáceres and Messi stayed faithful to their origins and waved their own
national flags.
One of the most memorable moments was when Leo Messi and kit-man Chema Corbella appeared
wearing Guardia Urbana and Mossos de Esquadra police hats.
Balconies decked out
The streets were absolutely packed with people. Passeig Colón, Vía
Laietana and Plaça Universitat were especially rampant, but the area where most people congregated
was the city’s hub, Plaça Catalunya. Everywhere the bus went there were shows of
unconditional support for the team and its colours. There was even one banner in French which said
“Eto'o, Africa simply says thank you”.
