Eto’o joint third top scorer
Roger Bogunyà
In his 200th official appearance for Barca at the Riazor on Saturday night, Samuel Eto’o, chalked up his 130th goal. It’s a remarkable record that puts him joint third in the all time club goalscoring list alongside Rivaldo.
Although there was nothing at stake for the team against Deportivo, Eto’o was out to beat his
personal scoring record in a season and to equal Rivaldo’s all time third place. His last
gasp strike means he’s scored 36 goals this campaign in all competitions – his best
ever return since he joined the club.
Only bettered by Cesar and Kubala
The goal at the Riazor means Eto’o has scored 130
goals in the club’s colours, ahead of such famous club names as Mariano Martín (124 goals) or
Rexach and Kluivert (122 goals), but still a fair way behind César (235 goals) and Kubala (196
goals) who remain Barca’s all time leading scorers.
Best ever league tally
This league campaign has also been Eto’o’s best as a goalscorer. In 2005/6 he was
La Liga’s top scorer with 26 and this season he’s beaten that with 30 goals in 36
games, though it’s Diego Forlan who is the 08/09 “pichichi” with 32 strikes.
