Andrés Iniesta has been told that he will be out of action for between six and eight weeks after an MRI on Friday morning confirmed that he has torn a muscle in his right leg.
The FC Barcelona midfielder returned to the Ciutat Contal where he will now stay for up to two
months with the objective being to help regain full fitness before pre-season training starts ahead
of the 2009-10 campaign.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque called Iniesta up to his squad as one of five Barcelona
players for the Confederations Cup in South Africa that start on June 14, but after medical tests
he was ruled out and told to return to Barcelona.
Friendly meeting
Gerard Piqué and Carles Puyol are also carrying slight knocks, but they have stayed with the
Spanish set-up along with Xavi Hernández and Sergi Busquets.
Spain start their training regime this Friday and are preparing for the Confederations Cup
with a friendly against Azerbaijan in Baku.
