Valdés: “Barça and I share the same dream”

The FC Barcelona goalkeeper’s contract runs out next season, but his only desire is to continue defending the colours of the team he loves.
Víctor Valdés has had yet another amazing season between the Barcelona sticks. He had the best
record of any keeper in the championship, and has posted such crucial performances as those in both
legs of the semi final tie with Chelsea. But although his contract is soon to be up for review,
Valdés, speaking today in Gavà, said: “the club and I have the same dream of continuing
together for many more years and I am sure there won’t be any problems reaching an
agreement”.
“I only have words of praise for the boss”
Valdés is thoroughly thankful to manager Josep Guardiola for the good faith he has received.
“He has always been very positive and has given me confidence all season. I only have words
of praise for the boss and not only because of his trust, but because of everything he has taught
me and what he has helped us achieve” said Valdés.
“Success is valued over time”
This year FC Barcelona have made history by winning the treble and doing
so playing a kind of football the world has rarely seen before. Víctor Valdés is aware of that.
“Like the year we won the League and then the Champions Leaguer in Paris, success is valued
over time … it is only after time goes by that you realise just how important your
achievement has been. We have made history and now we need to disconnect and take a break so we can
start next season with out batteries fully charged”.
Not worried about Real Madrid
Florentino Pérez and his new project are of no concern to Víctor Valdés. “If they build
a good side, so much the better for us. I’m sure they will make things difficult for us.
After the season Barça have had, it’s only normal that they should want to generate
excitement in Madrid. At the end of the day, the championship and the supporters can only benefit
from this” said the Catalan stopper.
National team a pending matter
Despite everything he has achieved, the FC Barcelona keeper has yet to be called up for the Spain
squad. “I have always said that an international call-up is something that any player would
be excited about. All I can do is keep working, nothing else. This year we have achieved big things
as a group, and on a personal level, I am very happy with what I have done. At the end of the day,
it is all down to the national coach” said Valdés.
