Mexican legends
Guadalajara, known to their fans as ‘Chivas Rayadas’, has the most Mexican League
titles having racked up 11. It also has one of the largest worldwide fan bases. Founded in 1906, it
only fields Mexican players and hence has a very strong academy system.
Recent precedents
Barça and Chivas have played each other twice in the last three years. Last
summer they faced off in Chicago, when the Catalans won
2-5
with goals by Xavi, Hleb, Eto’o (2) and Cáceres. Two seasons before that they drew one
all in Los Angeles, with Gudjohnsen scoring for the side then managed by Frank Rijkaard.
