Brazil without Alves head group (3-0)
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Brazil has got through to the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup. Dani Alves didn’t play in the game against Italy who have been knocked out. The US is the fourth semi-finalist.
Against all forecasts, Italy have not made the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup after defeat
last night in South Africa. Brazil, who like Spain have won all their three matches, top group B,
while reigning CONCACAF Cup winners the USA came second after thrashing Egypt.
Maicon for Alves
The Barça defender missed the game against the world champions as he had against the US and
so far has only turned out against Egypt. Brazil coach Dunga preferred Maicon for the right back
slot against both the US and Italy.
Brazil v South Africa
That means Brazil will go head-to-head with the home team in the second semi-final of the
Confederations Cup. Brazil topped group B to take on South Africa who came second in group A.
Spain v USA
Spain will take on the reigning CONCACAF champions in the other semi-final after the
Americans finished second in group B. The winners of the two semi-finals will play the final next
weekend, with Brazil hoping to defend the title they won in 2005 in Germany.
