Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta get training
Marc Guillén / Jordi Clos
The three players that starred for Spain at the European championship have started training. All three started the day with the rest of the squad and worked out in isolation for the remainder of the session.
The sixth training session at Saint Andrews, in the build up to Thursday evening’s game with
Hibernian, included Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández and Iniesta. The Euro 2008 winners joined the
squad for ten minutes for the typical warm-up routine and then did circuit training with the ball
on their own.
Gentler than usual
The rest of the side had a gentle session of
little more than an hour, with the coaching staff well aware that the players have a game this
evening, and therefore there was no need to overdo things in training. The players worked on
possession plays and then Pep Guardiola took twenty minutes to discuss tactical issues, including
defensive strategies, set plays from corners, and dealing with free kicks on the edge of their
area.
Cáceres, OK
Martín Cáceres, who missed the Wednesday session with gastric bother, was able to train
normally today. However, Abidal is still out with an Achilles heel injury and jogged this morning
in the company of the other player carrying slight knock in his left leg, Sylvinho.
