Guardiola: “Things are looking really good”

www.fcbarcelona.cat

Pep Guardiola was very happy after the thumping victory. “We’ve done a really good job, as Chivas is one of the best sides in Mexico,” he argued. “It has one of the biggest fan bases in the world and we played really well.”

Pep Guardiola was pleased with the quality and work rate of his players after the 2-5 win against Chivas. “We’ve scored a lot of goals and defensively we’ve worked hard, which is absolutely essential,” he remarked. “The feeling you get is that no matter who plays, the team is working well and that gives you peace of mind at the start of the season.” He also noted that there had been no injuries and that all the players were playing at the required level.

Aware of problems

In the first match of the club’s US tour, Guardiola admitted that the players were a bit tired and suffering from jet lag: “The pitch was slow but we adapted to it well. The players know what they have to do and things are looking good”. He went on to say that he didn’t want to tire his players out in these two games as they have the Champions League qualifying rounds coming up.

Pleased yet demanding

Guardiola admitted he hadn’t expected to score so many goals and create so many chances. “We’ve done a really good job, as Chivas is one of the best sides in Mexico,” he argued. “It has one of the biggest fan bases in the world and we played really well.” However, in addition to the praise the Catalan coach reminded everyone he is a hard taskmaster: “The only bad thing was the two goals we let in; that’s a heads up which we have to talk about.”

Key figures
Pep Guardiola spoke about three of the game’s outstanding players: Pedro, Hleb and Eto'o.

Talking about Pedro, he said “I know him and I know how good he is and what he can do. I know I can call on him if we need him, but at the moment he is still a Barça Atlètic player.”
“Having all-rounders like Hleb helps me to have a smaller squad and keep everyone happy,” he said about the Byelorussian.

When asked about Eto'o, Guardiola stayed on message for the preseason: “He’s with us and we’ll use him. We know how good he is.”
