Martín Cáceres could make his debut in the top European competition this coming Wednesday against Wisla Krakow. The Uruguayan hopes the team can go into the game “in top form”.
Martín Cáceres is one of the five signings made by Barça this season and is the only one not to
have had the chance to play in the Champion’s League. If Pep Guardiola includes him in the
starting eleven he would make his debut in the top European competition. “I’m feeling
great,” said Cáceres. “I feel proud and happy to be able to take part in the
Champion’s League, whether I get play or not”. He added: “since day one the
manager has instilled in us that Wednesday’s game is like a final. The pre-season work was
good and we hope to go into the game in top form”.
Adapting to the style of play
In the five pre-season games, Cáceres has played two from
the start and closed the scoring against Chivas de Guadalajara with his first goal as a Barça
player. The Uruguayan spoke about the main changes he has noticed between Barça and his previous
team, Recreativo. “It’s difficult to adapt. Recreativo is totally different from Barça.
Here they play a more attacking game. In fact it’s a total change. Also with the press, the
travelling, the dressing rooms. There are lots of differences”.
His natural position
“I feel more comfortable as a centre half as it is the position I
have always played. But if I have to play right back I won’t have any problems”. During
the pre-season he mainly played in the middle with Piqué, Márquez or Puyol, but we also saw him
playing right back, substituting Alves. The South American footballer also spoke of Samuel
Eto’o: “He’s another team-mate. He’s had a great pre-season and shows how
involved he is every day”.

Sylvinho, ‘like a father'
During his first few weeks at the club, Martín Cáceres is adapting to a new club, a new style of
play, and also new team-mates. “I get on well with Leo, I suppose because he’s South
American but Sylvinho treats me like a son. He is an excellent person”.
