“The call-up surprised me”
David Puig
Bojan Krkic was “surprised and very happy” to be called up by the manager Vicente del Bosque for the game against Denmark. The Barça striker is waiting to play his first few minutes with the national team.
Bojan could make his debut with the national team in the game against Denmark to be played on the
20th in Copenhagen. The call-up by Vicente del Bosque was a surprise for the young Barça striker,
as he admitted in the press conference prior to the first team training session: “I
didn’t expect it as it coincided with the under-21 game against Russia. It came out of the
blue when they told me but I’m very happy and can’t wait to make my debut with the
national side”.
He doesn’t regret not going to the Euro 2008
Bojan could make his debut with the national side after not being able to in the friendly
against France on the 6th of February and having declined to take part in the Euro 2008 through
exhaustion. Bojan has assured that he doesn’t regret the decision: “It was a well
thought out decision by all concerned. I was aware of what I needed and what I would be missing. I
followed the whole competition and I was very happy with the team’s triumph”
Excited about the new project
The call-up for the national side coincides with the beginning of Bojan’s second season
in Barça’s first team. This year the situation is different from last year, when he moved up
from the reserve team. “I had no idea of what this world was like or what the changing room
at Barça would be like. If at a sporting level things went well, as an apprenticeship it went even
better. I learned a lot and now I am much better prepared and really excited about this
season’s new project”, assured Bojan.
