Barça won the Joan Gamper trophy after goals by Puyol and Eto'o turned round a 0-1 deficit. The blaugrana dressing room, Gerard Piqué among them, singled out the attitude of the team in snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.
The FC Barcelona players recognised to a man that the attitude of the team against Boca Juniors,
right up to the last minute, was crucial in lifting the Joan Gamper trophy.
Carles Puyol:
“It was a good game. It’s an important win for us and for the manner in which we
won.”
“It’s always good to win like this, fighting right up to the last minute.”
Gerard Piqué:
“We know that there are no friendly games against an Argentinian team.”
“The best thing about the team was the attitude. You have to give merit to the team who
has the will to win.”
“We will enjoy it and that I promise.”
“With this great atmosphere in the dressing room, which is the most important thing, we
can do great things.”
Jeffren:
“I was very nervous during the game but I’m very
happy to have played in it.”
“Boca are one of the best teams in the world and they came here to win.”
“We continued working to the very end and it paid off.”
Eto'o:
“The game was getting a bit difficult for us and that’s why I celebrated the goal
in a way it deserved.”
“There are no friendly games for Barça. We have to win every game. We’ve made a
great step forward today”.
