Sporting Clube de Portugal, FC Barcelona’s first rival in the Champions league, won their second game in the Portuguese Championship, and are joint top alongside Nacional.
The Lisbon based side faced Sporting Braga on Monday night in the Superliga, and ex Oviedo man
Paulo Bento’s charges won by a single goal at a ground where the green and whites have
traditionally struggled.
Sporting striker Hélder Postiga was given a start due to Yannick Djaló carrying an injury,
and took his chance by scoring in the 3rd minute. Postiga’s inclusion was one of only two
changes from the side that played last week, the other being Caneira replacing the suspended Polga.
In an intense game, Sporting Clube de Portugal looked especially strong at the back and allowed
Braga very few chances.
This away win puts Sporting top of the Superliga alongside Nacional and they already have a
two point lead on Oporto and four on Benfica. Barça will entertain Sporting in two week’s
time at the Camp Nou.
