Lionel Messi has not placed any importance on accusations made by Diego Maradona that he was not enough of a team player when he was asked to respond after landing in Barcelona on Friday.
"No problem exists," the Argentinian forward after hearing about the comments made by his legendary
countryman during the Albiceleste's draw against Peru in midweek. Upon landing at the airport in
Prat, Messi was asked by reporters about Maradona's views, but the Blaugrana star remained calm.
"It does mean anything," he remarked. "I am used to hearing that Diego has said things. He is
always saying things about me, but there is no problem. I will continue to play like I always do."
Piqué defends
During the press conference on Thursday evening, Gerard Piqué defended Messi. "A few days
ago, Maradona considered Messi to be his heir and now he is criticising the way that he plays," he
stated. "Messi is the best player in the world and he brings so much to the team."
Fit and ready
Despite the long flight from Lima, Messi said that he felt fine and was ready and willing to
play against Racing Santander on Saturday in Barcelona's first home game in the league of the new
season.
