Busquets, 20 years on

20 year old Sergi Busquets made his first team debut 20 years after his father Carles first played for the side in the 1988/89 season.
Manager Pep Guardiola handed a debut to Sergi Busquets on Saturday against Racing, a historic
occasion for the player and the club, for the 20 year old is the son of a former Barça goalkeeper
Carles Busquets.
Both Pep Guardiola and Carles Busquets formed part of the famous Dream Team that won six
Spanish league tiles. Carles Busquets is currently a youth goalkeepers coach at the club.
Personal performance
And the player was on the field for the full ninety minutes of the game. Busquets
acted as a distributor of the ball, playing in midfield alongside Keita and Xavi. The Sabadell born
youngster made his physical presence felt, being 189 cm tall, and also showed his fine positional
sense, and this was one of the main reasons why the home side enjoyed so much first half
possession.
Wearing the number 28 shirt, he also made some forays into attack and tried one attempt on
goal from the edge of the area, the visiting defence managing to clear the ball from the danger
zone.
Looking comfortable
At the end of the game the Catalan was obviously upset by the result, but said he had found
it easy to adapt to the team. “It’s amazing to play with them. I have trained a lot
with them over the preseason, and it was easy to play here."
Busquets explained that Guardiola had told him this morning that he would be getting a start,
and also said “the atmosphere among the squad is great. They have welcomed me well and
it’s amazing to be with them. I am now here to help both the reserve team and the first
team."
