Messi: “It’d be great to play well and win”

Leo Messi is looking to a convincing victory over Sporting Clube to win back the confidence of the fans. “We aren’t worried because we’re working well and we know the results will come,” he said.
The group stage of the Champions League kicks off this Tuesday and one of Barça’s key
players, Leo Messi, held a press conference before the club’s first match against Sporting
Clube. After a poor start to the League campaign, he thinks “it’d be great to play well
and win”. “That’s important to give some reassurance to the fans,” he
added, “but I think they can believe in us.”
Faith in the team
Messi made it clear he was very motivated for the start of
the Champions League. “At a club like Barça we have to win things,” he said.
“We’ll work hard to do that and I hope we can win this competition.” The
Argentine also spoke about how the players are feeling ahead of tomorrow’s match. “We
aren’t worried because we’re working well and we know the results will come,” he
said. “The other day we played well against Racing and all that was missing was goals.”
Team comes first
Messi knows that this could be his Champions League but as always the team comes first.
“I’ve won individual titles, but the most important are club ones,” he argued.
“I want to make sure the team wins them.”
When asked about where he has felt happiest playing so far this season, Messi once again
stressed the importance of the team. “I feel happy wherever the boss plays me,” he
said. “I don’t mind where I play up front.”
