FC Barcelona have been drawn to face Benidorm in their first game in this year’s Copa del Rey. They play away on October 29, and the return will be on November 12 at the Camp Nou.
The draw was held this Friday in Las Rozas for the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey. Pep
Guardiola’s side was drawn to play Benidorm, currently in Second Division B. The first leg
will be played in Alicante on October 29, and the return will be on November 12 at the Camp Nou.
Second meeting
This is not the first time Barça and Benidorm have met, for in the 1998/99 cup they met in
the round of sixteen, when Barça won 0-1 in the first leg, and then won 3-0 away in the
return.
Familiar foes for Barça Atlètic
Benidorm are more used to playing the Barça reserves in Division 2B, where they have
crossed paths six times in recent seasons (1989/90, 1990/91, 2000/01, 2004/05, 2005/06 y 2006/07),
making twelve actual games in all. Barça B have won two, drawn one and lost three at home, while
their away trips have seen two defeats and four wins for Benidorm.
Technical secretary Paco Martínez went to the draw in representation of FC Barcelona and said
the fact that there have been previous meetings with Benidorm meant “we know the opposition
well and Guardiola will be able to put together a very competitive team”.
