Sylvinho: “We are on the right path”

Sylvinho believes that he can be an important member of the FC Barcelona team this season and is ready to continue working hard while showing the same desire that he has always had.
The Brazilian international is in his fifth season at Camp Nou and is convinced that the squad and the coaching staff are producing good results after making an encouraging start to the campaign. “I see that everyone if really focussed on the job in hand in every training session and in every game,” he explained. “I think that we are on the right path but, above all, we have to keep our feet on the ground. The euphoria is normal, but we know and the coach knows that we have to isolate ourselves from that. The season is very long with many difficult games and we have to be united and to work every day to ensure that we continue to do well.”
Playing Athletic
Looking ahead to the game on Sunday in San Mamés, Sylvinho explained
that he believes it will be a “very difficult” outing for the Blaugrana. The return of
the international players at the end of the week means that “we will only have two days to
prepare for the game, but I think that as soon as they arrive back in Barcelona all the
internationals will all be concentrating on the game. They will all be confident that we can play
well and earn a result, but we must not go to Bilbao and not play because that will cause
problems.”
Waiting patiently
Sylvinho, along with Albert Jorquera and José Manuel Pinto, has played
the least minutes of any player in the Barça squad, but is confident his chance will come. “I
have been here many years and know my role,” he said. “To work every day and to my job
with desire. That is what I have throughout my career and it is what I will continue to do this
season. I am not going to make statements claiming that I do not want to play any more because that
does not do any good. I just have to work hard every day and wait, nothing more. It is not easy for
me, but I am not going to change my style.”
Barça in the States
Sylvinho has revealed that he is pleased that Barça are looking at forming a team in the United
States’ Major League Soccer. I think it is good news,” he said. “The Americans
are trying hard to implement football over there. Since Pelé was there, people in Brazil have
followed what they do. I hope that Barça can form a team over there.”
