FC Barcelona had several players in action on Tuesday evening as Martín Cáceres appeared for Uruguay, Gerard Piqué, Bojan Krkic and Sergio Busquets played for Spain Under-21s and Thierry Henry and Éric Abidal impressed for France.
Uruguay left it late to earn a point from their World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, while the
young trio for the Spanish Under-21 side were able to celebrate qualifying for the European
Championships as they defeated Switzerland in extra time and Abidal and Henry helped France defeat
Tunisia.
Uruguay earn valuable point (2-2)
After going two goals down in the first half, Uruguay had to come back to earn a point
against Bolivia. Carlos Bueno netted the first and then Sebastian Abreu levelled in the 88th minute
in a game that saw Cáceres play the entire 90 minutes for his country.
Spain win in extra time
Spain will play in the Under-21 European Championships after netting an extra time winner
against the Swiss. Having lost the first leg of the Play-Off 2-1, the Spanish won the first 90
minutes by that scoreline on Tuesday evening before Raúl García netted a third in the second half
of extra time. Piqué and Bojan played the entire match, while Busquets entered the game in the 74th
minute.
Henry brace
The friendly between France and Tunisia in Saint-Denis saw Henry shine. The
Barça forward scored twice to give the French victory after Issam Jemaa had put the visitors ahead
on the half-hour mark. Henry netted before and after the break while Karim Benzema added a third
midway through the second half.
Henry played 83 minutes of the game, while Abidal completed the whole match on the left of
defence.
