Belarusian Alexander Hleb has said he would like to play at San Mamés on Sunday against Athletic Club Bilbao. He might not be 100% fit, but he still feels able to play.
As he only got medical clearance on Thursday, Alexander Hleb recognises that he wouldn’t be
up to playing the full ninety minutes. “I’m sure I won’t be able to play the
whole game” he said. “But I could play a few minutes, even as a forward or attacking
midfielder. The boss is who decides, but the most important thing for me is to be able to
play.”
Needing a goal
“I like playing for the team. They say I should shoot more but I
usually prefer to find a team mate. At the end of the day, it is the team that counts and not any
specific player” said Hleb when quizzed about his lack of goals.
Stronger after injury
Alexander Hleb spoke about his return t fitness. “Injuries are never good for us”
he said. “But I’ve recovered now, I’m feeling much better. I’m stronger and
feeling very confident”.
Trying to fit in
The midfielder signed from Arsenal and learned the trade in his native Belarus. He was asked
how he is settling into this very different environment. “I go to Spanish classes every week
and hope to learn and speak it very soon. I think it’s very important to understand each
other both on and off the pitch” he said.

Golden Ball
Alexander Hleb feels he has some quality team-mates in the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and Leo Messi,
and is convinced that they deserve global recognition. “In this team there are several
players who could easily win the Golden Ball. Xavi, Iniesta and Messi are all fantastic players.
They have done a lot to deserve this trophy and I hope one of them gets it” he said.
