Abraham gets his reward

Jordi Clos

The reserve player made his first official first team appearance in Benidorm. He is the third player to get his debut under Guardiola.

It was Barça’s tenth win in a row, this time away to Benidorm in the cup, and also served as an introduction for the latest pearl to come up through the youth ranks: Abraham González. From Barcelona, the 23 year old is a versatile player, and can play anywhere from midfield to right back. Pep Guardiola has already handed chances to three new youngsters this season.

Five first minutes

Reserve team presence

The manager already knows Abraham very well after coaching him in the B team last season. The new Barça Atlètic coach, Luis Enrique, also feels the player has promise and has used him five of his last six outings. Abraham has even responded by notching up his first goal.

The happiest of all

At the end of the cup duel in Benidorm, Abraham expressed his full satisfaction. “I am very happy with my debut, it’s the biggest thing.” He thanked Guardiola for rewarding him with this opportunity and said “I’ll carry on working in order to get more chances”.

Trip to Saint Andrews
Although Benidorm witnessed his official debut, Abraham has experienced first team football before. He went on the Scotland tour, playing (45 minutes against Hibernian and 27 against Dundee United). He also played all 90 minutes of the Copa Catalunya semi final against Sant Andreu.
