Keita looking to do even better

Berta Brau

Seydou Keita is improving as a footballer at Barça and feels he can perform even better than he did at Sevilla. The Malian is also thoroughly impressed with the way his team is performing in defence.

Seydou Keita spoke to the press on Wednesday and said he is hoping “to do things better” and is confident he can perform even better than he did in a Sevilla shirt. The midfielder feels he is getting over “a process of adapting to a new system of playing”.

Keita’s first goals

The midfielder from Mali got his first goal for his new team against Recreativo, and said he was delighted to have got off the mark because “goals mean the difference between winning and losing”. He also added that “it is important for midfielders to score as well” as that’s an added bonus for the team.

Great defending

Keita explained that “we are working well in defence and that’s important, because we know it’s dangerous to let teams take shots against us.” He is also impressed with the amount of possession his side gets to enjoy. “I think one of our strong points is that when we lose the ball, we fight to get it back quickly, because as long as we have the ball, it’s so much harder for our opponents.”

Keita and Touré

Much has been said this season about whether Touré and Keita are compatible. The Malian has no doubts about this. “I don’t think comparisons should be made between us. We are different players, we play different football and everyone contributes in his own way to the team. We are compatible and we also complement each other” he said.

The Barça player was named in the Mali squad to play Algeria in Paris this Wednesday, but spoke to his manager to ask if he could be excused. Keita explained this situation by saying “I wanted to stay here, because I’m just getting over an injury and my ankle is still hurting me a bit and I don’t want to run any risks.”
