Back to work with three missing
Marc Guillén / Vanessa Forns
The first team went back to training on Tuesday morning after a two-day rest, but Puyol, Márquez and Touré were all absent.
Pep Guardiola’s players worked out this morning at La
Masia, in their first session since beating Real Madrid 2-0 on Saturday. The next fixture to focus
on is the trip to Villarreal on Sunday. Puyol, Márquez and Touré were all away.
Puyol, with dental abscess
According to an announcement made by the club Medical Services, the centre back did not train
because he has an abscess in his teeth. The captain is taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory
pills, but in principle he should be able to train again as normal on Wednesday.
Márquez with pulled hamstring
Márquez, meanwhile, has pulled a hamstring in his left leg. The Mexican international has
been undergoing water therapy and the way things develop will determine when he is able to return
to training and whether or not he will be available for the weekend game in Villarreal.
Touré with migraine
Touré Yaya was also absent, having suffered an acute migraine, for which he is taking
medication and has been ordered to rest. It is still not clear whether the Ivorian will be back for
training on Wednesday.
Under heavy rain and in bitterly cold conditions, the first
team got down to work at 11.30 am, with the session starting with the usual warm-up drills.
Minute’s silence for Cristóbal
Before staring training on Tuesday, the squad observed a minute’s silence in memory of Barça
fan Cristóbal, who has for so many years shown such unconditional support not just for the first
team, but for the young hopefuls in the youth teams too. Although they could not attend the
funeral, some of the players did go to show their respects to the body.
