Barça dominating on the road
Jordi Clos
The first team has set a new record for consecutive away wins. The eleven they have collected this season far excel the eight of 1927/28 and seven in 2005/06.
Barça 2008/09 are setting new records left, right and centre. In one of these, Pep
Guardiola’s side has won eleven games in a row away from the Camp Nou, an achievement that
vastly overshadows the eight under Romà Forns (1927/28) and the seven under Frank Rijkaard
(2005/06).
7 in League, 3 in Champions League and 1 in Cup
After losing in their debut in Soria (1-0), Barça
have gone on to win on all of their other league trips, something they have never done before. The
wins were in Gijón (1-6), Montjuïc (1-2), Bilbao (0-1), Malaga (1-4), Huelva (0-2), Seville (0-3)
and Vila-real (1-2). In those games they scored 20 and conceded just 5.
In the Champions League group stage, Barcelona
was the only team to win all three of their away fixtures, something Barça only once managed
before, in 2002/03. This season the Catalans made history by winning at Shakthar Donetsk (1-2),
Basel (0-5) and Sporting Clube de Portugal (2-5), making an average four goals a game. Incredible.
Meanwhile, Barça have only played one round of
the Copa del Rey. That was against Division 2B Benidorm, and saw the visitors get things off to the
ideal start with a 1-0 in Alicante, the only goal of the game being scored by Bojan Krkic.
