Barça set another record
Marc Guillén
The draw against Villarreal took Barca’s unbeaten league run this season to 16 games – beating the record set by Terry Venables’ team in the 83/84 season.
Although Barca were held to a draw on Saturday night, they stretched their unbeaten start to the
league to 16 – a new club record.
Venables’ great start
The previous best run was under Terry Venables when the team went 15 games unbeaten
at the start of the 1983/84 season. That run was broken when a young Julio Salinas scored to give
Atletic Bilbao a 1-0 win in San Mames.
Better record
Guardiola’s team have bettered Venables’ not just in extending the run, but also
in the number of points taken, having won 12 and drawn four against the 10 wins, five draws and one
defeat under the English manager.
22 from 24 points at the Camp Nou
The two points dropped against Villarreal were also the first Barca had let escape from the
Camp Nou so far this season, having won all the previous seven.
