Cup history favours Barça

Tuesday night’s match against Sevilla will be the 12th time the two sides have been drawn together in the Spanish Cup. Barça have emerged victorious from 8 of those ties.
Barça and Sevilla last met in the Cup in January 2008. The first leg, played in
Sevilla ended 1-1 while the return leg in the Camp Nou was goalless. So Frank Rijkaard’s
Barça side qualified on the away goals rule.
The Dream Team
In the 1990/91 season, the Barça team managed by Johan Cruyff eliminated Sevilla in the
quarterfinals. The aggregate score was 7-0, Barça scoring 4 in Sevilla and then 3 in the Camp Nou.
Only three wins for Sevilla
The competition has had a variety of names over its history. Barça and
Sevilla first met in the 1918/19 season, when it was known as the Copa Alfonso XIII. It then
changed to the Copa Presidente and, later, the Copa del Generalísimo. Sevilla have beaten Barça in
three ties – in 1944, 1946 and 1973. The rest have been won by Barça - in 1919, 1922, 1929,
1934, 1942, 1951, 1991 and 2008.
In total, Barça have won 15 of the Cup matches against Sevilla, drawn 3 and lost 4. In the 22
matches played, Barça have scored 49 goals and conceded 28.
