Kome: “There is more Barça than Madrid support here”
Miquel Agut / Roger Bogunyà
Tenerife midfielder Daniel Kome expects a good game on Sunday at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. The Cameroonian also feels Barça are more popular in the Canaries than Madrid.
Ever since the two titles in the 1990s, there has been a special bond between Tenerife and FC
Barcelona. Kome spoke about that to Barça TV and fcbarcelona.cat saying “I have noticed that
there is more Barça than Madrid support here, but on Sunday the people will be behind us. Then
they’ll go back to supporting Barça”.
Barça the team to beat
The African also said “the tickets sold out in an hour” but that it is not only
Barça that seek to play attractive football. “We are having some good games and have a good
project, but right now we aren’t having much luck in front of goal … Against Barça, who
also play well, I expect a good game. They are the team to beat”.
Midfield battle
He believes the three points will be decided in midfield. “It will be difficult. When I
was at Valladolid I played against Barça and remember we drew at Pucela and lost 4-1 at the Camp
Nou. Barça’s midfield can make it very hard for you".
Liga globetrotter
Daniel Kome has plenty of First Division experience. The Cameroonian started at this level at
Getafe, in the 2004/05 season, having previously played in the lower leagues for Atlètico Madrid B,
Levante and Numancia. After a year with Getafe, he moved to Ciudad de Murcia and then Mallorca. His
last club was Valladolid, where he spent two years before joining his present club Tenerife.
Curiously, with his last two teams he has enjoyed promotion from the second division.
