Stats on Barca’s side

Jesús Carrillo

Seville have played 13 home games so far this season: 9 in the league, 3 in the Champions League and 1 Spanish Cup match and on 2 occasions the visiting teams have recorded results which would if repeated on Wednesday, be enough.

Seville’s positive start to the season has been hampered by the loss of important players to the African Nations Cup and they have taken just 5 points from the last 18 on offer. Seville have drawn two and lost two of their last four home games, going down 1-2 in their last two games to Getafe and Racing de Santander. A similar result after 90 minutes on Wednesday would take the tie into extra time.

Two months without a league win at home

Copia_de_JSP_0892.JPGSeville, who’ve taken the same number of points at home as they have on the road – 15, haven’t in fact won at home since 8th November when they beat Villarreal 3-2 for their fourth home win of the season. Their poor home league form has seriously damaged their chances of achieving their objective for this season, a place in next year’s Champions League, but has not been reflected in European or Cup games. In the Champions League, Seville won twice and drew their other home group game and in the last round of the Spanish Cup they thrashed minnows Ciudad de Lorqui 5-1.

Precedents favour Barca
The last time the two teams met in the Andalucía capital was in week 13 of last year’s league campaign, when two goals from Messi and another from Eto’o gave them a 0-3 win. A similar result on Wednesday would do very nicely indeed to see them through to the next round.
