Puyol overtakes Rexach
Anna Segura
Carles Puyol overtook Carles Rexach on Saturday having played 26.898 minutes in the league and next week he could beat Zubizarreta and become number three on the all time list of players who’ve played most minutes for the club.
Since his debut in the 1999/2000 season Carles Puyol has become a
fundamental part of the team and a reference within the club over the last few years.
From Van Gaal to Josep Guardiola, every Barca boss has counted on Puyol, something reflected
in the stats of his 11 years in the first team.
Next stop Zubi
The Valladolid game saw Carles Puyol reach 26,898 league minutes in a Barca shirt
and thus overtake Carles Rexach, who played for 26.824 minutes. Rexach reached his figure in 331
games, whilst Puyol has needed just 315 league games to beat his record.
Puyol’s next objective has to be to beat Zubizarreta’s 26.945 minutes and move
into third place in the all time list and 45 minutes next week will be enough to do that.
Migueli and Xavi in front
The two players ahead of Puyol are Migueli and Xavi. Xavi made his debut a season
before Puyol and has so far played 28.103 minutes in 337 league games, whilst Migueli played for
34,368 minutes in 391 games in the seventies and eighties.
