Guardiola hits the 100 mark
Jordi Clos
Pep Guardiola will join an elite group of coaches on Saturday when he takes charge of his 100th official game in charge of FC Barcelona.
The Catalan trainer will become the eighth man to join the centenary club and joins some
illustrious names that have coached Barça to the ton mark. Johan Cruyff leads the way with 430
games under his belt, while Frank Rijkaard took charge for 273 games, Marius Michels oversaw 264
matches, Louis van Gaal 200, Terry Venables 169, Ferdinand Daucik 150 and Helenio Herrera 143.
70 wins
Of the 99 matches that Guardiola has taken charge of so far, Barça have
won 70 of them, drawn 19 and lost just ten giving him a percentage of just ten per cent in defeats.
Goals have not been in short supply either with the Blaugrana netting 238 and conceding just 76.
Herrera’s record
Helenio Herrera is the only coach ahead of Guardiola in the statistics stakes as he
won 72 games of his first 100 matches in charge during his two spells, between 1958 and 1960 and
1979 and 1980, in charge. Herrera did taste defeat on 16 occasions though.
Goals galore
The other coaches did not fair as well from their first 100 games as Daudik was next with 63
wins, but the coach of the Cinco Copas team saw his side net 302 goals and concede 155. Van Gaal,
Herrera and Venables are the other three coaches to win the league title in their first seasons in
charge.
