More points than this time last year
Roger Bogunyà
The win over Malaga takes Barca to 61 points – one more than last year at the same stage when they went on to win the title.
A year ago, the 24th game was against Espanyol and Barca’s city neighbours caused a shock by
winning 1-2 at the Nou Camp to leave their hosts on 60 points. Guardiola warned at the start of
this season that we shouldn’t expect his team to repeat last year’s numbers, but after
last night’s win, they have indeed gone one better in the league.
New record?
Last year’s title winning haul of 87 points was a record, but with 42 points still to
play for, the team are just 26 off beating that mark and need to take “just” 62% of the
points on offer to set a new record.
Just 11 points dropped
That doesn’t look beyond Guardiola’s team given their
spectacular first half of the season in which they have so far won 84,7% of the points available
(61 from a possible 72 ). The team have let just 11 points escape them, losing away to Athletic
Madrid and being held to a draw by Valencia, Osasuna, Athletic Club de Bilbao and Vilarreal).
