Maxwell: “we are ready for the games to come”
Sandra Sarmiento
Maxwell told Barca TV after the win against Malaga that the squad “have a good feeling again”, whilst insisting that it’s not just the results, but also the sensations in the squad that count.
A week ago Barca beat Racing 4-0, but there were plenty of doubts raised about their style of play.
In contrast, this weekend they made the fans sweat before coming out on top against Malaga and
Maxwell explained: it’s important that we feel things are clicking. We knew that we’d
not been at our best for the last three or four weeks, but tonight we kept possession and played
really well”.
Back to their best
78% of possession and 20 shots on goal. Numbers that reflect
Barca’s superiority and as Maxwell commented: “we created lots of chances and we are
happy about that. We try and build from the back so that the forwards get the ball as cleanly as
possible”. That’s part of Barca’s DNA –more attacks and more chances.
Big games coming up
For 68 minutes of Saturday’s game, Madrid were top of the table as Barca struggled to
score: “when you are making chances, but not scoring it is important to get the goal to take
the tension away”. Looking to the run in to the end of the season, Maxwell reckons:
“there’s a lot of games coming up and we are motivated because they are big games
– we have to stay focussed, take the points in the league and progress in Europe. We are
ready and up for the games to come”.
Good run in the team
With Abidal out injured, Maxwell has started in the last 5 games and the
match time as clearly pushed him forward: “I’m getting better with every game.
It’s vital for a player to get games under his belt - I just hope I keep improving”.
Maxwell formed part of an all Brazilian full back pairing against Malaga and he explained that his
partner Dani Alves: “is at a great level right now he’s intense, focussed and really
skilful. We are all really happy with what he’s doing - especially because his enthusiasm is
really infectious”.
