100 goals so far
Sandra Sarmiento
After 44 games so far this season, Barca have notched up 100 goals, with Leo Messi the main scorer with a third of the total.
After a week in which they impressed the whole of Europe with their brilliant football, Barca have
now reached the hundred mark, as they get to the business end of the season. The 44 games have seen
34 wins, 7 draws and just 3 defeats- Although last year’s total of 159 goals seems difficult
to repeat, with Messi in the form he’s in right now anything can happen.
Most of the squad have scored
Milito, Maxwell, Txgrinski, Abidal, Toure and Jeffren are the only squad members who’ve
yet to score – though it has to be said that most of them are defenders. The team’s
strikers have scored 75 of the goals, 15 have been from midfielders and the defenders have got 8.
Between them, Messi, Ibrahimovic and Pedro have scored 67 goals.
71 home grown players’ goals
Pep Guardiola has placed his confidence in the club’s home grown
players and the 71goals that they have scored just shows how well La Masia has worked. Messi, with
34 goals, leads the list, with Pedro next on 17 and Xavi on 6.
Well worked tactics
Barca are also one of the team’s who take most advantage of dead
ball situations. Apart from goals direct from free kicks, Barca have scored 12 goals from dead ball
situations: Bojan started with a goal against Sporting Gijon and Ibrahimovic scored the last in the
Calderon.
More points than last year
Barca have won 12 games by at least three goals, the same as last season, though last year
they also chalked up a 5-0 and a 6-0 win. This season’s Barca may have scored fewer goals,
but they have been more solid at the back and got two more points than at the same stage last
season and loss two less games. The average goals per game over the 44 games so far is 2.27.
