Pedro yet again

Edgar Fornós

Pedro has a habit of appearing at important moments, and his goal at the Santiago Bernabeu was yet another example. The goal that made it 2-0 on Saturday was his 18th of the season.

At first, he looked like a boy with a magic wand. But nobody is talking about luck any more. Pedro is an exceptional player who always seems to deliver when it matters most. He has always enjoyed the manager’s faith and makes the most of every opportunity he is given, as he did at the Bernabéu.

“There are no words for what this boy can do”

supercampions_x3x.jpgAfter the game, Guardiola spoke about Pedro’s excellent 90 minutes. “He’s an incredible player. We all knew what good quality he is and that he was good enough for the team, but he’s offering more than we ever imagined. There are no words for what this boy has been doing this season. We are pleased and satisfied with his performances and I just hope he carries on as he has done until now.”

Sackloads of goals

In Madrid he took that tally up to 18 in all competitions, which have included the extra time winner in the European Super Cup against Shakhtar (1-0) and a goal in the World Club’s Cup Final that Barça also won (2-1).

Right or left

Not only is Pedro hot in front of goal, but the Canary Islander is also highly versatile. He can play with either foot, so he can play on either side of the attack or down the middle. At the Bernabeu he played on the left in the first half and the right in the second, and caused headaches for the home time either side of the break.

Third highest scorer
Pedro Rodríguez has consolidated his position as the third highest goalscorer for FC Barcelona with 18 goals. Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ahead of him with 20 and record-breaking Messi has 40.
