Barca might have come away with the points from the Bernabeu, but Pep Guardiola is well aware that Madrid have enjoyed a great season so far and is clear that: “the lead is insignificant, if we slip up it could easily disappear”.
Guardiola isn’t taking anything for granted and warned that despite his team’s win
at the Bernabeu on Saturday, Real Madrid are still a big threat and in both the League and
Champions League competitions: “nobody is going to give anything away”.
Long way to go
The boss also sees no sense of euphoria in the squad: “I think the
players are pretty stable. They know there’s still a long way to go and the advantage we have
is insignificant. Madrid won’t lose many games and it’s for us to win the league,
starting with the games against Deportivo and Espanyol”.
No tiredness
It’s been a long season and the next few weeks promise to be key to the team’s
possible success, but Guardiola believes: “there’s no tiredness at this stage.
We’re so close – there’s no tiredness, just desire and that desire to go back and
do something great gets rid of any weariness you might have”.
Iniesta blow
Andrés Iniesta’s injury has clearly come as a big blow to the team and
Guardiola admitted that both the player himself and the rest of the squad were saddened by it:
“he’ll be an important absence for us, but we just have to get behind him and help him
get back as soon as possible”.
