Best run of the season
www.fcbarcelona.cat
FC Barcelona's victory over Deportivo de La Coruña on Wednesday evening was the team's seventh consecutive league win and marked their best run of the current campaign.
Pep Guardiola's team have entered the title run-in in great form and in the last month have been
able to take control at the top of the table with a string of impressive wins. After drawing
against Almería on March 6 the Blaugrana have gone on to beat Real Zaragoza (2-4), Osasuna (2-0),
Mallorca (0-1), Athletic Club (4-1), Real Madrid (0-2) and Deportivo (3-0).
That set of results beat the string of six wins on the bounce that the team chalked up early
on in the season. That run came to an end when Barça were held to a goalless draw by Valencia.
With these results, the Barça improves the gust of wind of six continued
victories that chained in the starter of the season. On that occasion was exactly the Valencia the
first assembly that avoided that the team of the Six Cups added the three points (0-0).
Clean sheets
Once again FC Barcelona kept a clean sheet as Víctor Valdés made is 18 matches this term
without conceding. In the last five league games the Catalan keeper has just conceded just one and
that came in the 4-1 win over Athletic Club.
The defensive record has meant that Valdés is now almost certain to win the coveted Zamora
Trophy for being the best custodian in the top flight. With just six games remaining Valdés has
conceded just 19 goals, while Real Madrid's Iker Casillas is second with 28.
