Barça miss out on seventh final
www.fcbarcelona.cat
FC Barcelona’s semi final defeat means they will not be going to the seventh Champions League final, what would have been their third final in five years.
After Berne, Seville, London, Athens, Paris and Rome - Barça were looking forward to going to
Madrid. The 3-2 aggregate score means Pep Guardiola will not be going to his second consecutive
Champions League final, which would have been a first for the club.
However, Barça can still feel proud of appearing in three consecutive semi finals.
Second in a row not to be
Barça have thus failed to equal Manchester United’s feat of appearing in two
consecutive finals, 07/08 in Moscow and 08/09 in Rome. The Red Devils became the first back-to-back
finalists of the Champions League. No team had been in two finals in a row since AC Milan in 1989
and 1990, when the tournament was still a straight knockout only involving the league champions of
each country. The defeat also means that Barça will not become the first team to successfully
defend the trophy in the Champions League era.
